Breast Cancer


1 Self - Exam
Do a monthly breast self - exam and visit your doctor if you experience breast changes. Find out the correct way to do the exam.
2 Diet
Eat fruit and vegetables.
Antioxidants, fibres and vitamins reduce the risk of illnesss. Limit meat consumption.
3 Normal weight
Maintain body weight within normal limits. Obesity increases the risk of breast cancer.
4 Exercise
Exercise lowers the risk of breast cancer.
5 Limit alcohol
consumption to 2 – 3 glasses weekly.
6 Quit smoking
Qutting smoking greatly reduces the risk. Find out about programs near you to help you quit.
7 Personal risk
Ask your doctor about your individual risk of developing the disease, which depends on your personal and family history.
8 Mammogram
Consult your Gynaecologist regarding when to start and how often to do the test.
9 Hormones
Find out about the side effects and risks of taking such drugs, and ask your doctor regarding a monitoring plan.
10 Genetic testing
for BRCA1 – 2 genes is recommended to women (and men) with a family history of the disease.
